HIV/AIDS 4 Hour COURSE

The following are curriculum topics for an HIV/AIDS education program are the minimum required to meet the Washington State Department of Health training requirements. The listed topics are intended for the four-hour licensing requirements and for non-licensed health care facility employees who have no specific hourly Requirements.

    1. Confidentiality as defined in the AIDS Omnibus bill (RCW and WAC)
    2. Informed consent
    3. Legal reporting requirements
    4. Ethical issues
    5. Civil rights
  4. Psychosocial Issues
    1. Personal impact of the HIV continuum
    2. The human response to death and dying
    3. Issues for care providers
    4. Family issues
    5. Special populations
* Special requirements:

Emergency Medical Services - WACs 246-975 and 246-977 require 4 hours initial training and annual updates. Call (360) 705-6716 for more information.

Health Care facility employees - must receive HIV/AIDS education, but topics, not hours, are specified. A minimum of 2-3 hours would be necessary to address topics 1, 2, 5 and 6 on the Outline.

Funeral Directors - are under the jurisdiction of the Department of Licensing, not Department of Health. Call (360) 586-4905 for more information.

Drug, Alcohol and Substance Abuse (DASA) - counselors are required to have additional, specialized training. Call (360) 438-8219 for more information.
